Our Engagement Story...

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and in the spirit of this lovely holiday, Mama M. is hosting a week long blog hop to give us all a chance to share some sweet, sweet stories about our own loves. Today is all about engagement stories and I thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane...

June 24th, 2005 ~ That Afternoon...

It was a Friday. We were on our way to the beach with some of Sean's family, and looking forward to a weekend away. Sean and I had been talking about getting engaged for a few months. I was good about giving him subtle hints that I would happily except his proposal at any time (and more obvious ones, like randomly changing the background of his computer to pictures of the rings that would make that proposal complete...). We were a day away from celebrating 5 years and 5 months as a couple, so the question was far from being "if" and was simply "when". I was excited and hopeful that this beach trip would be the trip and that I would come home with happy news to share! We didn't talk about it during the drive, and I most certainly didn't ask any questions. I knew it was a possibility, but I still wanted there to be an element of "surprise".

 That Evening...

We arrived to our condo early that evening. After getting settled in, Sean asked me if I wanted to talk a walk on the beach. Let me take a moment to tell you something about Sean: He does not like the beach. Well, he likes the golf courses at the beach, but not the sand. So, when he suggested we go walk in it, I got a little nervous. I was certain the moment I had been waiting for was upon me.

He took my hand and we began our evening stroll down the beach. I remember actually being nervous. "What will he say?" "What kind of ring did he choose?" Lots of questions started racing through my mind, but I soon realized that Sean did not seem nervous, or fidgety, and I listened as he started a relaxed and "normal" conversation. Then I relaxed. If he was going to propose, he would wait until the following day, our 5 year and 5 months anniversary. The rest of the walk was just us being us. He finally asked me if I was ready to turn around and head back to the condo, the sun was starting to set.

We made it all the way back to the entrance of the path leading to our condo. It was a beautiful evening. As I started up the path, Sean asked, "What's that?", so I turned to look. It was a blanket laid out on the sand. On top of it was something that had been covered up with another blanket. I got nervous again.

He grabbed my hand and lead me over to the blanket. We sat down together and he uncovered the "object" that had been hidden. It was this little guy, dressed in his tuxedo and kneeling on one knee...

Sean said a lot of really sweet things during that moment that I honestly don't remember, because I was honestly surprised! The very cool thing about my handsome bear is that whenever I press his hand I hear Sean's voice, telling me he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me. And underneath that little red heart he's holding? That was where I found my engagment ring, and Sean couldn't have done a better job picking it out.

(Us, newly engaged, the following morning!)

I like to laugh now and tell Sean that the bear is the one who really asked me to marry him. Either way, I got the proposal of my dreams, and I never even dreamed that that's how it would happen! It was an awesome trip, and obviously one that I will never forget. I'm kind of getting all teary just thinking about it...

Sean's brother and father set everything up on the beach while we were on our walk. I recall now that I watched them scurry away once they saw we had arrived. Sean had also met my dad prior to our trip to ask for my hand in marriage. :) It was also Madison's first beach trip, so the weekend holds many special memories.

Here are a couple of our engagement pictures, appropriately taken on the beach!

And who would have guessed that 3 years later we would become parents to our beautiful little Grace...I love life.

Day 193...

I thought she might enjoy this moving experience...

She also thinks it's lots of fun to take out of the boxes what I've just put in!

Only one week and 2 days to go!

Day 192...

Sean, Gracie, and I spent late yesterday afternoon and evening with my dad and step-mom. They live out in a beautiful part of town, a part that exemplifies the meaning of "peace and quiet". We took a walk down their road, stopping to visit with a few of their "neigh"-bors along the way...

We came across a very nice man who allowed us to be part of a very special moment for him. One of his horses gave birth to a gorgeous colt 2 weeks ago, and we got to see him in action on his very first trip out of the stall! He wasted no time in running at a full gallop throughout the yard. He was completely free right in front us, no fences or gates. "Tony" even ran up to us to say hello, then ran to his mommy for a drink. It was precious! I didn't even get a picture of him because I was trying to keep Gracie from running after him! He may have been a 2 week old baby, but he was by no means a little guy! The gentleman invited Gracie to come back anytime, so we're looking forward to visiting the horses again soon!

Tot School: Snow!

Last week's Tot School theme was "Snow"!

Tot School

After all of the snow and ice we've gotten over the past week or so, I thought it would be a great theme for us. We started off on Monday, the 1st, with a little snow experiment. As Gracie played, I talked to her about the properties of snow, "It's cold, it's wet, it melts"...things like that! Of course, she had her own ideas of what to do with her snow!

It's Melting!

We completed a few snow themed crafts this past week as well. Gracie is a big fan of her glue stick, and of attempting to take off what she has just glued on...but I love the end result, and I always let her finish playing with her glue stick and any left over materials for as long as she likes, no matter how sticky the situation becomes... :)

Later in the week, we worked on a counting activity using pasta!

This grabbed her attention for maybe 30 seconds, so we moved on to something a little more interesting to her...

We made a pasta necklace!

This coming week will be all about L.O.V.E!

Day 190...

I love the way toddlers think. They are so incredibly smart, and those wheels are constantly turning, which means that they also say the funniest things! I've laughed out loud at my nieces, Taylor and Madison, and have been amazed by their logic. Now that Gracie is using more and more words, and putting them into short sentences, she's adding to the sweetness of "toddler talk". Today, after getting out of the car to walk into a store, I noticed a look of surprise cross her face. She then pointed and told us, "It's poopy", in such a matter-of-fact tone... She was pointing at the dirty snow piled up in the parking lot! She had one thing right, it was not a pretty sight! :)

Day 189...

It's Friday! I woke up this morning to the pitter patter of freezing rain against our bedroom window. I enjoy the snow, but there's nothing fun about ice falling from the sky! Sean began the morning working from home, but by mid-morning felt comfortable heading into work. I think it was tough for him to stay focused here...of course, his 20 month old (who was in a wild, but exellent, mood this morning) and wife would have had nothing to do with that!

I attempted to be productive this morning. Gracie and I began the monumental task of cleaning out the closet, but it didn't work out so well. I thought she might be entertained with all of our junk, but instead she just wanted to jump on the bed...I guess I should be diving back into that now that she's napping...

Happy Friday!

Day 188...

Gracie doesn't have a clue what's in store for her over the next couple of weeks...We are moving! The last time we moved, Gracie was 12 weeks old. She slept through the packing, and the unpacking, and could have cared less if her surroundings completely changed. This time, it's going to be fun for her, and for me! We've moving from our apartment, the only home Gracie's ever known, to a house...with lots more space...and a fenced in backyard! She'll have a nice, safe place to run around in Mommy's shoes...

I'm sure it will all be a bit confusing, as she watches everything we own go into boxes, but she will love where we're going.

Gracie, this move is for you!

Also, Ashley (my sister) started a blog! Here's the link for those who would like to jump over and check it out. She's still getting the hang of the blogging world, but she's done a great job so far! It's all about life with Austin (and the other men in her life, Landon and Chandler)!
